Wei Chong Is Fine Working With Other Players

Men’s doubles badminton player Wei Chong won’t be partnering with his usual partner Tee Kai Wun at the Malaysia Games (Sukma). This won’t affect him getting a medal in the game.

Wei Chong will be representing Selangor and partnering with Jimmy Wong. On the other side, Kai Wun will be donning Melaka colors. Wei Chong said that in the last Sukma in 2018, he reached the quarter-finals as he partnered with Low Hang Yee and hoped he could do better this time and win at least a medal.

Wei Chong is determined to bounce back after he and Kai Wun narrowly lost to Indonesia’s world No. 1 in the first round of the Japan Open two weeks ago.

Wei Chong admitted that he and Kai Wun still have a lot of room for improvement. They will need to work on their mentality and strength. By working on it, they are able to make their game more firm. He and Kai Wun are currently ranked 28th in the world.

Doubles coach Tan Bin Shen believes that Wei Chong and Kai Wun have a fighting chance of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris. But they will need to improve physically to stay injury-free.

Wei Chong and Kai Wun have been struggling with their injuries in the past, and they need to bulk up to withstand the demands of training and tournaments. They wanted to do more, but their stamina couldn’t cope. They need to improve physically, improve their skills, and be more consistent.
