Soniia Cheah has struggled with her ankle injuries but has not given up hope of playing in the Cambodia SEA Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games next year.

Soniia is frustrated with her layoff due to the injury as the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was the last tournament she had competed in before she returned for the World Championships.

Soniia will continue to battle on and make herself available for international duties, but she tries to stay away from injuries. Soniia has been representing Puchong United Badminton Club in the Purple League, but her ankle injuries continue to haunt her. Her Vietnam opponent defeated her in the women’s singles in the Purple League.

Soniia is now ranked world No. 61. She said it wasn’t an easy game for her especially competing against a top opponent like Thi Trang. She wasn’t able to perform well due to her knee injuries.

She hopes to recover soon and improve her world ranking. She will want to get back on track soon in the upcoming 2022 Indonesia International Challenge and also fight for a spot in next year’s SEA and Asian Games.
