Swiatek Has To Skip The Billie Jean King Cup Finals

The world number one, Iga Swiatek, will not play for Poland in Billie Jean King Cup finals. She took issue with the sport’s governing bodies and their handling of scheduling the tournaments.

Swiatek had helped Poland progress to the finals in April, but the Billie Jean King Cup finals will be held just one day after the season-ending WTA Finals, which will be held in Texas this year.

Swiatek said she had to think through it and discuss it with her team all over again but decided she won’t be able to play at Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. She feels disappointed about it.

She always will play for Poland whenever she can and will give her best. It was an honor to play for Poland this year, and she hoped to do it again at the end of the season. But she is disappointed that the tennis governing bodies didn’t agree on the tournaments’ scheduling. Only giving them one day to travel through the world and changing the time zone.

The WTA Finals are organized by the women’s tennis body, while the Billie Jean King Cup is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Swiatek said it is not safe for their health to travel through the globe within one day and participate in tournaments continuously. This could cause injuries, and she will talk to the WTA and ITF to change something.

A situation like this is difficult for the players and the tennis fans that support the sport. The Billie Jean King Cup will have 12 teams competing in four rounds. The group winners will move to the semi-finals.
