Robert Lewandowski Revealed He’ll Wear Ukrainian Colours at World Cup

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski will appear on the Poland national team captain’s armband in the colours of Ukraine at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Robert Lewandowski is a Polish professional footballer who plays for La Liga club Barcelona and is the captain of the Polish national team. Known for his positioning, technique and finishing ability, Lewandowski is considered one of the best strikers of all time and one of the most successful players in Bundesliga history.

The striker met legendary former Ukrainian player Andriy Shevchenko, currently an ambassador for Laureus, at the National Stadium in Warsaw on Tuesday, who presented him with a yellow and blue captain’s armband for the match wear.

Shevchenko is a Ukrainian football manager, former professional football player and former politician. Shevchenko has played for Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan, Chelsea and the Ukraine national team as striker. He was most recently the head coach of Serie A club Genoa.

“I will wear Ukraine’s colours at the World Cup. As a player and as a man, I support peace and I think these symbolic gestures are important,” said Lewandowski, who immediately followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and being one of the hardest lobbyists because the game between his national team and Russia was postponed.

The Polish striker previously wore an armband in Ukrainian colours as captain of former club Bayern Munich.

“For me, the captain’s armband is a symbol of leadership, strength and passion for your country. I want to pass this armband on to Robert for his support, his voice and his platform for supporting my country and calling for peace, ” Shevchenko said.
