Cheah Liek Hou’s hopes that Nova Armada will be able to be his full-time coach to prepare him for the 2024 Paris Paralympics have been approved by the National Sports Council.
Liek Hou was trained by Datuk Rashid Sidek when he first got his first gold in badminton at Tokyo Paralympics last year. He was in the men’s singles SU5 category.
Reunion For Liek Hou
The announcement that Liek Hou will be trained under Armada will be a sort of reunion as Armada had trained Liek Hou during his younger days. Rashi is tied up with some commitments and is not available. The former national coach is focusing on his club.
Rashid is also managing IOI Sports Centre in Putrajaya and will run a badminton academy at the facility. The NSC Paralympic division director said they agreed to let Liek Hou train under Nova to help him defend his crown in 2024 Paralympics.
Other players in the SU5 category are currently trained under Samidiono Slament. The arrangement is set to continue. They are also exploring if there is any possibility of letting Fareez Anuar train under Nova. Fareez Anuar is seen as the successor when Liek Hou retires.
