National men’s singles shuttler Cheam June Wei is seeking better results in four years. He reached his first World Tour semi-final in Vietnam last week and wants to continue his form in the Indonesian International Challenge and Indonesian Masters.
June Wei says he is more confident after reaching the Vietnam Open semi-finals and wants to continue the momentum for the two tournaments in Indonesia.
June Wei Aims To Get Into Top 32 Next Year
June Wei is now ranked 64th in the world, he says that he’s not setting any specific targets, but he will stay focused and continue to improve himself. He knew he needed a lot of improvement and felt upbeat after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to resurrect his career.
He was stressed and worried about his career after that, as he had to get his own sponsors. He is now trained under Indonesian coach Nova Armada at Sports Affairs. Other players training with him includes Soong Joo Ven and women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei.
He hopes to have a better shape next year. He needs to prepare himself well, as he has many tournaments to participate. He hopes to move to the top 32 next year to play in higher-tier World Tour competitions.
He is now representing Petaling Badminton Club to participate in the Purple League, and his team will be in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
