Borussia Dortmund Beat Sevilla and Retained in Top Two in Group G

Borussia Dortmund won three straights in the first half to beat hosts Sevilla 4-1 in Wednesday’s Champions League Group G tie and remain firmly in the top two.

Raphael Guerreiro put the German in front with a missile from 16 metres before Jude Bellingham, 19, made a fine run in the penalty area and angled the ball into the far corner, making him to became the youngest captain ever to score in a Champions League game.

The England international is also the first midfielder to score in three consecutive Champions League games.

Borussia Dortmund Scored 3 Goals In The First Half of The Match

Two minutes after half-time, Karim Adeyemi made it 3-0 on a rebound, Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri closed the gap six minutes after the restart before Julian Brandt’s header in the 75th-minute secured the three points.

Borussia Dortmund, who host Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday, sit second in the group with six points, three behind leaders Manchester City.

Copenhagen and Sevilla, who announced manager Julen Lopetegui’s departure minutes after the game, scored a point. The coach has been coaching since 2019.

“It was definitely the reaction we wanted to show. I think the difference between today and the previous days when against Cologne is that we got the job done early,” Bellingham said.

“Three goals in the first half made you a little more comfortable in the second half. I think that’s a lesson for us going forward.

Sevilla, 17th in La Liga, missed several early chances through En-Nesyri and were punished when Guerreiro hit the ball with a superb shot.

The hosts, who have won just one of their 10 games this season, had a golden double to equalise, but Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer made a fine save to prevent En-Nesyri’s header.

Jose Angel Carmona shot from a corner over the bar and Dortmund scored again – twice in three minutes – via Bellingham and Adeyemi, then En-Nesyri’s scored in the 51st minute.

Sevilla’s pressure gradually eased, the hosts lost momentum and Dortmund found more attacking space. They scored their fourth when Youssoufa Moukoko cut the ball into the box for Brandt to head in.

The home fans said goodbye to coach Julen Lopetegui after what proved to be his last game in charge of the Spanish club. Sevilla sacked the Basque coach immediately after a poor start to the season.
