Most Players Kept by Pan Gon for Thai King’s Cup competition

Harimau Malaya head coach Kim Pan Gon has kept 17 players who have helped Malaysia qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 as they take on the Thailand King’s Cup competition in Chiang Mai from 22-25 September.

Among the new players nominated for the competition are 21-year-olds from the U23 national team namely goalkeepers Rahadiazli Rahalim, Azam Azmi Murad and Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi.

The 53-year-old coach also includes Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi, Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar, Brendan Gan, Zhafri Yahya and Declan Lambert. He also listed 16 who will replace the main players if they are being injured or could not play for any reason.

The last time Brendon played for the national team was in a 1-0 win over Thailand in the qualifying rounds of the World Cup 2022/Asia Cup 2023 in Dubai on June 2021, until his cancer was confirmed.

The Malaysian Football Association (FAM) said in a statement today that the Harimau Malaya team will hold important training sessions at the Wisma FAM field from 16 to 19 September before heading to Chiang Mai for the competition.

In the four-nation tournament on September 22nd (Thursday), Malaysia, ranked 148th in the world, will face Thailand (111th), and Trinidad and Tobago (101st) will face Tajikistan (109th).

The winner of the two games will face in the final in his Sept 25, with the defeated team battling for third place.
